Uttar Pradesh Weather Alert: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning Across Western and Eastern Districts Due to Low-Pressure System
A drastic shift in weather patterns has gripped Uttar Pradesh as an active low-pressure system forming over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh triggers widespread rainfall across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued high-alert weather warnings for multiple districts, bringing much-needed relief from humidity while raising concerns over potential waterlogging. As continuous downpours batter local regions, administrative agencies and agricultural departments have ramped up advisories to guide residents and farmers through the wet spell.
Heavy Downpours Recorded Across Western and Eastern Regions
The impact of the active meteorological system has been clearly felt over the past 24 hours, recording significant downpours across various regional pockets. Western Uttar Pradesh saw intense spells, with Shahjahanpur logging a heavy rainfall accumulation of 11 cm. Concurrently, eastern districts witnessed substantial showers, highlighted by Sant Kabir Nagar recording 7 cm of precipitation. According to meteorological forecasts, this wet weather regime is set to persist, bringing continuous rain, thunder, and lightning flashes to several parts of the state through the upcoming weekend.
District-Specific Forecasts and IMD Warnings
The weather department predicts widespread rainfall accompanied by lightning activity across multiple districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Saharanpur, Baghpat, and Bijnor, spanning September 5 to September 6. Meanwhile, eastern Uttar Pradesh is slated to experience similar stormy conditions extending through September 8, with districts such as Varanasi, Mirzapur, Sultanpur, and Sonbhadra expected to receive heavy downpours. Authorities urge commuters and residents in low-lying zones to exercise caution amid reduced visibility and waterlogging risks.
Critical Advisories Issued for State Farmers
In light of the continuous rain warnings, the agricultural department has issued strict guidelines for farmers across western and eastern UP. Cultivators are advised to remain vigilant and immediately set up proper drainage systems to remove excess water from sensitive crop fields, including pigeon peas, pulses, oilseeds, turmeric, ginger, and seasonal vegetables. Furthermore, farmers have been strongly advised to postpone all farming operations involving sowing, fertilizer application, and plant protection spraying until soil moisture levels normalize.
