In a major welfare breakthrough for rural governance across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a substantial salary hike for over 57,000 Panchayat Assistants on Wednesday. Delivering on long-pending administrative demands, the state administration increased their monthly honorarium from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000, representing an immediate ₹3,000 monthly raise. To guarantee financial transparency and eliminate bureaucratic red tape, the revised monthly stipends will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of all active workers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payment system, providing vital financial stability to grassroots personnel responsible for operating village-level public digital services.
Strict Dismissal Rules, Reinstatement of Agitating Staff, and Maternity Benefits for Women
Alongside the pay hike, the Uttar Pradesh government introduced sweeping employment safeguards, ensuring that local Village Pradhans and Panchayat Secretaries can no longer arbitrarily dismiss Panchayat Assistants from their roles. Under the newly established regulatory framework, any disciplinary action or removal can only be authorized by an independent scrutiny committee headed by the respective District Magistrate (DM). Additionally, the state unveiled cashless medical treatment coverage, granted mandatory paid maternity leave for female staff, ordered the unconditional withdrawal of all police cases filed during previous worker agitations, and mandated the immediate reinstatement of assistants previously terminated during protests.
