UP Board Basic Education Council Announces Half-Yearly Exam Dates for Classes 1 to 8
Under the educational governance framework led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has reaffirmed its administrative commitment to elevating foundational learning benchmarks and standardizing student academic assessments across state-run educational facilities. In a key administrative order issued on Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council officially declared the comprehensive timetable for the half-yearly examinations for the 2026–27 academic session, catering to students enrolled in Classes 1 through 8 across all council-operated and government-recognized institutions statewide. According to the directives communicated by Council Secretary Surendra Tiwari, the centralized examination exercise will take place between November 17 and November 21, with all District Basic Education Officers (BSAs) instructed to ensure high administrative transparency, strict question paper confidentiality, and smooth operational management.
Class-Wise Assessment Structure: Oral Tests for Class 1, Dual Format for Primary Tiers
The Basic Education Council has structured the examination format to balance cognitive comprehension and foundational literacy across different age brackets:
Class 1 Oral Evaluation: To prevent academic stress among young learners, assessments for students in Class 1 will be conducted exclusively through structured oral questions designed to test foundational language and numerical familiarity.
Dual Format for Classes 2 and 3: Students in Classes 2 and 3 will be evaluated through a balanced combination of scheduled written worksheets and oral comprehension tests.
Classes 4 and 5 Testing Model: Primary students in Classes 4 and 5 will similarly appear for both written and oral examinations scheduled across dedicated time slots to evaluate baseline analytical abilities.
Comprehensive Written Papers for Upper Primary (Classes 6 to 8): For students enrolled in Classes 6, 7, and 8, evaluations will be carried out entirely through formal written theory examinations.
Broad Curriculum Coverage: The state-wide tests cover fundamental and core academic disciplines, including Hindi language and literature, Mathematics, English, Sanskrit, Urdu, Social Science, Science, Environmental Studies (EVS), as well as Arts and Music education.
Strict Guidelines for District BSAs: Confidential Printing and Model Question Papers
To maintain uniformity and prevent logistical disruptions across 75 districts, state authorities have laid down strict administrative protocols:
District-Level Paper Preparation: In accordance with council guidelines, standardized model question papers for every subject and class will be drafted under the supervision of academic subject experts at the district level.
Confidentiality and Printing Security: District Basic Education Officers have been tasked with the direct personal responsibility of overseeing the confidential printing, tamper-evident packaging, and secure dispatch of question papers to individual examination clusters.
Timely Delivery to School Hubs: Education administrators must guarantee that sealed paper packets reach school headmasters well ahead of scheduled morning shifts to preempt delays or leaks.
Time-Bound Evaluation and Swift Result Declarations Mandated
The council's notification places strong emphasis on institutional accountability following the conclusion of written tests on November 21:
Safe Custody of Answer Scripts: Heads of institutions and block education officers must establish secured evaluation rooms to store completed student answer sheets immediately after each daily paper.
Transparent Evaluation Protocols: Teacher panels will evaluate response sheets adhering strictly to council-approved rubrics and marking templates to guarantee objective scoring.
Expedited Result Declarations: District administrations have been directed to wrap up evaluations promptly and announce results within established deadlines, providing parents with detailed progress cards on student academic performance.
