UP Bans Meat & Liquor Near Religious Sites for Navratri and Dussehra

Post

Taking proactive steps to maintain communal harmony, public safety, and administrative discipline ahead of the festive season, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered round-the-clock CCTV surveillance across all major temples in the state. Chairing a high-level review of the law and order apparatus and citizen grievance systems via video conference from his official residence in Lucknow, the Chief Minister directed district magistrates and police chiefs to enforce a blanket ban on the sale of meat and liquor along festive procession routes, immersion paths, and surrounding areas of puja pandals during Sharadiya Navratri and Dussehra.

Zero Tolerance for Violations: Meat-Liquor Curb and Uninterrupted Temple Surveillance

The state government has issued clear operational mandates to ensure reverence and public order during the upcoming festivities:

24-Hour Digital Surveillance: All prominent shrines and Devi pilgrimage centers across the state will be monitored through continuous CCTV grids, with command control rooms tracking crowd density and movement.

Prohibitions Along Routes: Strict restrictions will prohibit the operation of meat and liquor shops located in close proximity to temples, Durga Puja pandals, and designated procession corridors.

Senior Officials in the Field: Top-tier administrative and police officers have been directed to stay on ground patrol, conduct routine flag marches, and maintain direct, open dialogue with community representatives and local citizens to deter rumors.

Festive Calendar Readiness: Focus on Major Shaktipeeths and Anti-Romeo Drives

With massive footfalls anticipated across prominent pilgrimage circuits, specialized deployments have been assigned for key religious dates:

Major Dates Highlighted: The administration has been instructed to roll out watertight crowd-control and sanitation arrangements for Durga Ashtami on October 18, Mahanavami on October 19, and Vijayadashami on October 20.

Reinforced Security at Holy Shrines: Heavy deployments of additional police forces will guard major pilgrim centers including Vindhyachal Dham in Mirzapur, Devipatan Shaktipeeth in Balrampur, Siddhapeeth Maa Shakumbhari Devi in Saharanpur, Maa Lalita Devi Shaktipeeth in Sitapur, and Naimisharanya.

Vigilance at Pandals and Effigy Burning Sites: Static police pickets, medical camps, fire tenders, and rapid-response ambulances will line immersion routes and Ravan Dahan grounds.

Stepped-Up Anti-Romeo Operations: Directing strict enforcement of women's safety, the Chief Minister mandated that Mission Shakti Centers in all police stations operate effectively, while tasking Anti-Romeo Squads to ramp up patrols around markets, fairs, and educational zones alongside crackdowns against reckless bike stunt performers.

24-Hour Public Grievance Disposal and Road Repairs by October 31

Beyond festive law and order, the Chief Minister tied administrative efficiency directly to citizen satisfaction:

Strict Redressal Timelines: Any citizen registering a grievance at the police station or administrative level must receive a satisfactory, verifiable resolution within a maximum window of 24 hours.

15-Day Revenue Deadline: Undisputed revenue matters, land disputes, and caste or income certificate applications must be disposed of within 15 days without bureaucratic delay.

Pothole-Free Roads: Addressing monsoon infrastructure damage, local bodies and public works departments have been given a firm deadline of October 31 to complete all patchwork and repairs on rain-damaged arterial roads statewide.
