UP Approves Urgent Overhaul for 66 Monsoon-Damaged Roads & Bridges
In a significant infrastructure upgrade aimed at restoring seamless connectivity across Western Uttar Pradesh, the state government has officially sanctioned ₹15.59 crore for the comprehensive repair and restoration of 66 damaged roads and bridges across Saharanpur district. Following heavy monsoon downpours that disrupted arterial links between rural belts and market hubs, the Public Works Department (PWD) formulated an extensive restoration blueprint and submitted it directly to headquarters in Lucknow. With technical and financial clearance issued, the project will restore more than 40 kilometers of vital commuter stretches across three executive divisions, bringing immediate transit relief to over 200,000 residents living across more than 80 villages.
Official Approval from Lucknow: Chief Engineer Sanctions Rapid Three-Month Delivery
The administrative green light follows a detailed technical assessment of flood and rain-induced damage across the district:
Official Sanction Issued: Formal budget clearance was released under the directives of Anil Kumar Dubey, Chief Engineer, Office of the Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, Uttar Pradesh (Traffic Division).
Targeted Mileage: The sanctioned outlay of ₹15.59 crore will fund special surface repairs, bridge restorations, and bituminous recapping covering an aggregate stretch of 40.139 kilometers.
Three-Month Construction Deadline: PWD engineers confirmed that competitive e-tenders are being finalized to award contracts quickly, with on-ground civil repairs slated for completion within an unbroken 90-day execution window from the commencement of construction.
Division-Wise Budget Breakdown: How the ₹15.59 Crore Fund Will Be Deployed
The special rehabilitation outlay has been divided systematically among three core PWD divisions to tackle the most severely impacted rural and semi-urban routes:
Construction Division: Allocated ₹5.35 crore dedicated to the comprehensive resurfacing of 23 critical road segments spanning approximately 14 kilometers.
Construction Division-3: Granted ₹3.57 crore to revamp 18 damaged local corridors covering an aggregate length of 13 kilometers.
Provincial Division: Sanctioned the largest individual portion exceeding ₹6.66 crore, earmarked for overhauling 25 key arterial stretches spanning 12 kilometers.
Lifeline for 80+ Villages: Over 2 Lakh Residents Set to Gain Direct Transit Relief
The restoration drive focuses on fixing structural issues caused by waterlogging, ensuring long-term road safety for rural commuters:
Ending Post-Monsoon Travel Hazards: Heavy seasonal rainfall had created hazardous potholes, eroded road shoulders, and caused minor structural bridge damages, making routine transit challenging for school buses, daily commuters, and heavy agrarian transport vehicles.
Direct Rural Impact: The restoration of these 66 corridors directly impacts daily mobility for an estimated population of over 200,000 citizens scattered across more than 80 rural settlements.
Boosting Local Agrarian Commerce: By swiftly repairing damaged bridge approaches and rural road links, the administration aims to facilitate the safe and rapid transport of agricultural produce, sugarcane, and timber to regional mandis and urban trading hubs across Saharanpur.
