The persistent environmental challenge of stubble burning in Uttar Pradesh is set to undergo a revolutionary shift as authorities pave the way for a massive industrial green energy initiative. Bharat GPS Bioenergy Private Limited (BGBPL)—operating through a strategic 50-50 joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and GPS Group—is set to establish an advanced Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in the Sakarpar area located within the Banshi tehsil of Siddharthnagar. Backed by a substantial capital investment of Rs 123.23 crore, the upcoming facility aims to convert agricultural waste and leftover paddy residue into sustainable green fuel, organic fertilizers, and a lucrative secondary income stream for agrarian communities.
Securing Land Leases and Scaling Operational Capacity
The infrastructural groundwork for the project crossed a major milestone on Wednesday after corporate representatives successfully finalized the lease agreements for approximately 20 acres of land involving 15 local farmers. Detailing the plant's operational blueprint, company Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar announced that the facility will possess a processing capacity of 15 tonnes per day (TPD), consuming roughly 130 tonnes of stubble and organic residue daily. The generated compressed biogas will be seamlessly distributed across domestic energy channels utilizing BPCL’s extensive distribution network. Furthermore, the industrial process will yield 39 tonnes of solid organic fertilizer alongside large quantities of liquid organic manure daily, offering agricultural producers a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers.
Curbing Pollution and Empowering Farmers Across Three Districts
This groundbreaking venture arrives as a timely intervention for Siddharthnagar, which previously recorded high numbers of stubble burning incidents during seasonal harvesting cycles. By establishing long-term procurement channels backed by an estimated availability of over 4.18 lakh tonnes of paddy residue within a 30-kilometer radius, the initiative directly addresses regional air pollution and carbon emission concerns. Company officials have held comprehensive administrative consultations with District Magistrate Shivsharanappa GN, Chief Development Officer Balram Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture Rajesh Kumar, and District Industries Center General Manager Shivshankar to streamline project execution. Crucially, the economic and environmental dividends of the Sakarpar CBG plant will extend far beyond Siddharthnagar, empowering farming communities across the neighboring districts of Sant Kabir Nagar and Basti to commercialize their agricultural residue, curb stubble burning, and secure substantial financial returns.
