Shiv Sahay Awasthi: Under the Chief Minister's directives, roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are being repaired to make them pothole-free on a priority basis ahead of the festivals

While providing an update on the 'pothole-free road' initiative during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Shiv Sahay Awasthi, CEO of UPRRDA, stated that continuous monitoring is being conducted regarding the maintenance of roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Currently, 2,405 roads (totaling 17,726.544 km) are under the 5-year maintenance period, while 809 roads (totaling 2,484.205 km) are undergoing maintenance in the post-DLP (Defect Liability Period) phase. Maintenance activities for these roads are being monitored via the 'e-Marg' portal. A review meeting regarding pothole repair and maintenance of PMGSY roads under the Uttar Pradesh Rural Road Development Agency was convened under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. Officials from various departments, including Principal Secretary (Rural Development) Shri Saurabh Babu, attended the meeting. The Chief Minister directed that, in view of upcoming festivals, all roads constructed under PMGSY be made pothole-free and easily navigable on a priority basis through necessary repairs, renewals, and maintenance work.

Shri Awasthi reported that 3,039 roads have been inspected so far; 2,914 of these (approximately 96%) were found to be in satisfactory condition, while corrective work is underway on the 125 roads found unsatisfactory. The department ensures transparency and accountability in maintenance activities through regular inspections, geo-tagging, online billing, and digital monitoring. Contractors upload monthly bills to the e-Marg portal, which are then verified by engineers. Payments are processed according to prescribed maintenance rates, and following the issuance of the CCL (Comprehensive Credit Limit), the PIU (Project Implementation Unit) makes payments to the respective firm or contractor via the e-Marg portal. This system ensures quality maintenance while making road connectivity in rural areas better, safer, and more accessible.
