The internal factionalism within the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district has flared up once again. The ongoing political cold war between former Lok Sabha MP Dr. ST Hasan and current MP Ruchi Veera has intensified following a public controversy over guest lists for an upcoming community event.
Exclusion from Jalsa-e-Aam Sparks Controversy
The political friction came to light over the preparations for the grand Jalsa-e-Aam, organized by the Khuddam-e-Ghulam-e-Tajdar-e-Madinah Committee. Dr. ST Hasan serves as the committee's chairman; however, the official event invitations conspicuously omitted the name of current SP MP Ruchi Veera. Instead, prominent figures from opposing political lines, including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Dr. Jaipal Singh Vyas, Bar Association President Anand Mohan Gupta, and Amirul Hasan Jafri, were designated as chief guests.
The omission has drawn sharp reactions from Ruchi Veera's supporters, who have openly expressed their displeasure over her absence from a major local event organized by a senior party figure.
Organizers Defend Non-Political Nature of Event
Addressing the backlash, the event's organizers defended the invitation protocol. Salim Warsi, General Secretary of the organizing committee, clarified that the gathering is a socio-religious function rather than a political party meeting. He emphasized that the event has long upheld a model of communal harmony, featuring multi-faith representation on stage and honoring local traditions of cultural unity by welcoming leaders across party lines.
Lingering Tensions Dating Back to Lok Sabha Elections
The latest dispute highlights deep-seated tensions that trace back to the preceding Lok Sabha elections. Dr. ST Hasan was initially slated as the Samajwadi Party candidate for Moradabad before his ticket was cancelled at the eleventh hour in favor of Ruchi Veera, who went on to contest and win the seat. Public friction has persisted since, compounded by previous incidents, such as BJP leaders attending familial events hosted by Dr. Hasan while local party colleagues remained uninvited. As political maneuvers continue, this widening chasm threatens to reignite factional challenges for the party leadership in the region.
