Railways Waives TDR Rule as Over 70 Delhi Trains Cancelled Over Jantar Mantar Stir

Post

Following massive disruptions caused by the sudden cancellation of national capital-bound express services ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) scheduled protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, the Railway Board has announced immediate financial relief for affected passengers. Millions of commuters left stranded across major junctions will receive a complete, 100 percent refund of their ticket fares. Removing standard procedural roadblocks, authorities confirmed that online ticket holders will not need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) to claim their money back.

Major Rail Arteries Paralyzed Across NCR and Lucknow Divisions

The sudden suspension of railway operations directly targeted major high-density routes connecting Uttar Pradesh to key Delhi terminals:

North Central Railway Disruption: Over 70 crucial long-distance trains running under the jurisdiction of North Central Railway, including premier premium carriers like the Prayagraj Express and Rajdhani Express, have been cancelled at originating stations.

Northern & North Eastern Railway Impact: Half a dozen premier trains departing under Northern Railway’s Lucknow division—such as the Lucknow Mail, AC Superfast Express, and Tejas Express—alongside seven major services under North Eastern Railway were halted before reaching New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.

Widespread Travel Chaos: The abrupt operational cancellations have disrupted weekend travel plans for lakhs of passengers, students, and daily commuters traversing the Indo-Gangetic rail corridor.

No TDR Required: Hassle-Free Full Refund Guidelines for Passengers

To prevent distress and long queues, railway officials have simplified the refund framework across digital and manual ticketing platforms:

Official Clarification: Dr. Amit Malviya, Senior Public Relations Officer (Sr. PRO) of North Central Railway, explained that the cancellations were initiated as a strict precautionary security measure to prevent massive overcrowding and safeguard passenger security amid tensions in New Delhi.

Automatic Reversal on E-Tickets: Passengers holding online IRCTC e-tickets are explicitly exempted from filing an online TDR. The system will automatically reverse and credit the complete fare directly into the customer's source bank account within three to five working days.

Window Ticket Counters: Commuters with physical counter tickets bought from reservation centers can collect their full cash refund simply by surrendering their tickets at any Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter within the stipulated timeline.
