Urban infrastructure in Varanasi is set for a massive facelift as the Public Works Department (PWD) Provincial Division has officially granted a conditional No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Varanasi Municipal Corporation for three vital arterial corridors. Initiated under the ambitious Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development (CM Grids) scheme, the regulatory clearance opens the way for comprehensive redevelopment, modern aesthetic redesign, and pedestrian-friendly upgrades across approximately 5.45 kilometers of high-density city stretches.

PWD Approves 5.45 km Across Three Key Corridors with Strict Traffic and Safety Conditions

Under the formal sanction issued by the PWD, road development work covers three prominent commuter routes: an estimated 2.35-kilometer stretch extending from Bhojubir Tiraha to the Pandeypur Flyover, a 950-meter heritage section connecting Shastri Murti, Ramnagar Fort, and Ramnagar Square, and a 2.15-kilometer segment running between Ashapur Square, Panchkoshi Square, and the Old Varuna Bridge. The department has laid down strict binding conditions, stipulating that civil construction must strictly adhere to industrial safety protocols without hindering daily vehicular movement. Additionally, construction agencies are mandated to complete the entire overhaul strictly without reducing the existing width of the main carriageway while following all departmental engineering guidelines.

The Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development (CM Grids) initiative focuses on turning congested urban corridors into smart, sustainable transit networks. Beyond routine resurfacing, the project prioritizes continuous paved sidewalks for pedestrians, covered stormwater drainage networks, dedicated underground utility ducts to curb repeated road digging, roadside green landscaping, and advanced traffic calming facilities. Inter-departmental coordination is proceeding rapidly as the Varanasi Municipal Corporation aligns with civic utilities to ensure smooth on-ground execution across all approved zones.
