Urban development in Uttar Pradesh is taking a major leap toward sustainability as New Agra is officially planned to be developed as a model green city, meeting the vast majority of its power demands through solar energy. Conceptualized under the comprehensive New Agra Master Plan 2041, the upcoming urban center aims to harmonize rapid industrial growth with an uncompromised clean environment. As authorities draft the paper blueprint for the new city across 44 notified villages under Phase 2 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA)—projected to accommodate an estimated population of 1.4 million residents—securing a reliable and eco-friendly energy matrix has taken top priority.

Massive Infrastructure Blueprint: 320-Hectare Solar Park and Rooftop Installations

To support the projected residential, commercial, and industrial power demands of the expanding metropolis, the Master Plan 2041 outlines extensive solar infrastructure development. A massive 256 MW solar park is slated for construction across 320 hectares of land. In addition to utility-scale solar generation, rooftop solar panels will be mandated to fulfill up to 90 percent of electricity requirements for industrial and commercial establishments. The city's planned industrial layout will host eco-friendly green and white category sectors, including Information Technology (IT), ITES, logistics hubs, and heritage tourism enterprises. Furthermore, municipal infrastructure will incorporate hybrid solar streetlights to illuminate roadways efficiently and reduce conventional grid dependency.

The development of New Agra under YEIDA's Phase 2 notification represents a forward-thinking approach to modern Indian urbanism, balancing demographic expansion with rigorous ecological safeguards.
