New 12-Meter Bridge Near District Jail and ₹50 Lakh Road Overhaul Greenlit
In a major infrastructure breakthrough aimed at easing chronic gridlock across Gonda city, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD Division I) has secured administrative sanction to dismantle the deteriorating, narrow crossing located opposite the District Jail and construct a modern 12-meter-wide bridge. Positioned along the arterial road running adjacent to the memorial of revered freedom fighter Rajendra Nath Lahiri, the existing seven-meter pipe culvert had fallen into severe disrepair, creating dangerous bottlenecks and heightened accident risks for evening commuters. The state administration has formally approved a capital outlay of ₹98.03 lakh for the newly engineered structure, significantly expanding vehicle capacity and establishing safer transit across this critical civic corridor.
Comprehensive Road Restoration: ₹50 Lakh Sanctioned for Dilapidated Kataha Ghat Stretch
Alongside the bridge reconstruction, the department is rolling out an immediate structural overhaul for the severely damaged two-kilometer roadway extending from the District Jail compound to Kataha Ghat. The existing concrete-and-cement thoroughfare has deteriorated over years of heavy commercial traffic, leaving deep potholes, uneven surfaces, and hazardous commuting conditions for local residents and freight transport. With a dedicated allocation of approximately ₹50 lakh approved for complete surface renewal and strengthening, the civil restoration project will transform the route into a resilient transit artery, ensuring smoother vehicular flow and cutting travel times across the regional network.
Strategic Heavy Vehicle Diversion: Direct Bypass via Jhanjari Toward Ayodhya and Utraula
The dual completion of the wider 12-meter bridge and the restored Kataha Ghat corridor will fundamentally reorganize commercial transit dynamics throughout Gonda. Urban planners and traffic authorities will implement a strategic vehicular diversion plan, rerouting large transport trucks and long-distance heavy carriers away from congested central city lanes through the Jhanjari block bypass. This planned bypass will channel freight traffic directly toward the regional transport corridors leading to Ayodhya and Utraula, dramatically curbing urban traffic bottlenecks, cutting local carbon emissions, and streamlining inter-district logistics across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
