For months, MBBS interns across various medical institutions—including students at the Umanath Singh Autonomous Government Medical College in Siddiqpur, Jaunpur—had been staging intense protests demanding a revision of their stipend. The agitation saw student doctors wearing black armbands, staging peaceful sit-in demonstrations on college campuses, and escalating their protests to the state capital in Lucknow.

While the students had initially advocated for an increase from Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000, the state administration evaluated their economic challenges and finalized the stipend at Rs 25,000 per month. The breakthrough came after continuous diplomatic efforts, notably when Dr. Kunwar Nilendra met directly with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approximately two months ago to outline the pressing financial hurdles faced by medical interns during their rigorous training period.

Delegation Meets Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to Express Gratitude

Keeping his promise made during the earlier representations, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expedited the formal clearance to revise the remuneration package. Following the official issuance of the order, an elated delegation comprising Dr. Kunwar Nilendra, Dr. Shubham Singh, Dr. Om, and Dr. Rishit met with the Chief Minister in person.

The student representatives conveyed their deep appreciation, noting that doubling the monthly stipend will significantly ease the financial burdens of medical interns, allowing them to focus entirely on their clinical duties and patient care without economic distress.
