Neelam Devi, who drives an e-rickshaw with great confidence across the roads of Munari, Babatpur, and surrounding areas in the Cholapur region of Varanasi district, is doing far more than simply transporting passengers to their destinations; she has become an inspiring example of self-reliance and courage for rural women. There was a time when the question arose whether a woman could build a livelihood by driving an e-rickshaw, but today, her hard work and determination have provided the answer.
Supported by government initiatives—delivered through women's groups under the able leadership of Keshav Prasad Maurya—women are becoming self-reliant by engaging in various entrepreneurial ventures. Smt. Neelam Devi is associated with the 'Vikas Self-Help Group' and affiliated with the 'Nari Shakti Mahila Prerna Mahila Sankul Samiti'. Joining the self-help group opened up new livelihood opportunities for her, giving her the courage to venture beyond traditional roles and establish her own source of income.
