Interest-free credit benefit of ₹20,000 for 10 million women in self-help groups; women's entrepreneurship to get a new boost: Keshav Prasad Maurya
A high-level meeting of the Rural Development Department was convened at Yojana Bhawan, Lucknow, under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Attendees included Minister of State for Rural Development Smt. Vijay Lakshmi Gautam, Principal Secretary (Rural Development) Saurabh Babu, Commissioner and Secretary Pramod Kumar Upadhyay, the Mission Director, senior officials from technical companies, top executives from public and private sector banks (including the State Bank of India), and other concerned officials. A significant initiative was also undertaken during the meeting to extend the 'Community Partnership' between the HCL Foundation and the Government of Uttar Pradesh for a five-year period up to 2031, aiming to accelerate and expand rural transformation; this is expected to further boost efforts related to women's empowerment, livelihood enhancement, digital inclusion, and community development in rural areas.
Special emphasis was placed on the effective implementation of the 'Uttar Pradesh Women Entrepreneur Credit Scheme' during the meeting. In the first phase of the scheme, work is underway to provide an interest-free credit benefit of ₹20,000 as a first installment to one crore 'Samuh Didis' (women members of self-help groups); women will be able to utilize these funds to start small businesses or expand existing enterprises.
