Having submitted her resignation on August 30, her departure sent ripples through both bureaucratic and political circles in the state. Hailing originally from Rewari, Haryana, and raised in Delhi with an impressive educational background including a B.Tech and an MBA from IIM Bangalore, Divya Mittal famously gave up a lucrative corporate career in London alongside her husband Gagandeep Singh to return to India and serve in the civil services.

From 'Reel DM' to Historic Public Welfare Initiatives and Financial Turnarounds

Throughout her distinguished tenure as District Magistrate across Deoria, Mirzapur, and Sant Kabir Nagar, Divya Mittal earned widespread acclaim for her hands-on governance and impactful welfare projects. Her most celebrated milestone includes bringing tap water to the remote, hilly village of Lahuridih in Mirzapur for the first time in 76 years since independence, prompting emotional blessings from local residents. In Deoria, she launched the innovative "My Village, My Pride" WhatsApp initiative connecting over 800 village heads directly with officials. Serving as Vice Chairman of the Bareilly Development Authority, she successfully rescued the body from financial default by clearing over ₹32 crore in government debt. While critics occasionally labeled her 'Reel DM' due to her active social media documentation of governance, supporters praised her transparency. Beyond administration, she is an author of two books—including UPSC preparation guide "The Crafted Genius"—and received an emotional farewell in Mirzapur where residents showered her with flowers on a swing.
