The newly constructed Ram Vanagaman Path—a prestigious infrastructure corridor connecting Ayodhya and Chitrakoot—has run into major controversy following the sudden appearance of massive cracks shortly after its completion. The structural failures have triggered severe public concern and drawn the immediate wrath of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Displaying zero tolerance for compromised infrastructure quality, the Chief Minister expressed deep displeasure over the lapses, prompting swift administrative action against the responsible construction firm and multiple negligent officials.
Confidential Investigation Targets Engineers and Construction Lapses
Following direct orders from the state leadership, preparations are now underway for a thorough, confidential investigation into the root causes of the road damage. The high-level inquiry will rigorously examine construction material standards, engineering oversight, and the direct accountability of supervising officials. According to credible administrative sources, more than 10 engineers and department officials are expected to face disciplinary actions as the investigation widens.
The controversy centers around the second package of the Ram Vanagaman Path project, which spans a 14-kilometer stretch from Avtarpur in Pratapgarh to Shringaverpur in Prayagraj, executed at an estimated cost of 407 crore rupees. Shortly after work concluded, alarming cracks measuring over 350 meters appeared along the highway segment stretching from the Lucknow Highway crosspoint to the Ganga Bridge at Shringaverpur Dham, with structural fissures and damaged Reinforced Earth (RE) walls reported across a two-kilometer radius.
Suspension of PWD Engineers and Blacklisting of Constructing Firms
In response to the mounting infrastructure crisis, swift punitive measures have been implemented. Chief Engineer of the PWD National Highway, A.K. Jain, formally wrote to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) recommending the blacklisting and debarment of the New Delhi-based construction agency, S&P Infrastructure Developers, alongside independent engineering consultant LN Malviya Infra Project. Additionally, strict disciplinary actions were initiated against key regional supervisors, including the recommended suspension of Onkar Bhartiya, Superintending Engineer of PWD National Highway, Prayagraj, and Executive Engineer Ravindra Pal Singh. While emergency repair teams have mobilized on-site to patch the damaged stretches within three to four days, the impending confidential probe aims to uncover whether systemic negligence and compromised monitoring compromised public safety.
