Free Roadways Bus Travel for Women Aged 60 and Above in UP: CM Yogi Adityanath Launches Scheme Today

Fulfilling a significant welfare commitment toward senior citizens and women's empowerment, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is officially launching free roadways bus travel for women aged 60 and above in the state. The inauguration ceremony takes place on Wednesday at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow under the banner of the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrishakti Yatra scheme, where the Chief Minister will also flag off special transit services.
Scheme Benefits and Daily Impact
The newly implemented initiative is expected to bring substantial relief to elderly female commuters across the state by eliminating daily travel expenses and making public transit significantly more accessible. According to transport department estimates, approximately 88,438 female passengers are projected to utilize this free travel facility on a daily basis.
To ensure systematic implementation and easy identification of beneficiaries, the Transport Corporation will issue dedicated special smart cards to eligible women aged 60 and above, streamlining the verification process across all state-run roadways buses.
Special Rakshabandhan Concessions for All Women
In addition to the permanent rollout for senior women, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced special festive travel concessions coinciding with Rakshabandhan. Female passengers of all ages—along with accompanying companions—will be able to travel free of charge on all roadways buses starting from 6:00 AM on August 27th until midnight on August 29th. A large fleet of special buses has been deployed across districts to manage the holiday rush comfortably.
Financial Commitment and Government Priority
The permanent free travel scheme for senior women involves a substantial recurring investment by the state, incurring an estimated monthly expenditure of ₹22.55 crore. Through this major administrative step, the Yogi Adityanath government continues to prioritize women's safety, dignity, social welfare, and mobility across Uttar Pradesh.
