Deluxe Facilities Coming to Shankargarh Station, Parking Expanded Across Kanpur Central
Indian Railways has launched a major infrastructure and passenger amenities upgrade across key stations under North Central Railway to enhance travel convenience, improve station hygiene, and resolve commuter parking congestion. Under the new initiative, Shankargarh railway station on the busy Mumbai trunk route in Prayagraj district will receive modern deluxe "pay-and-use" toilet complexes built to high sanitary standards. Simultaneously, railway authorities have formally initiated an e-auction bidding process to develop and expand dedicated vehicle parking facilities across Kanpur Central, Chunar, Shikohabad, and Jhinjhak stations, directly targeting traffic snarls outside passenger terminals and ensuring the safety of parked vehicles.
Shankargarh Station Gets 15-Year BOT Deluxe Toilets: 24/7 Water, Lighting, and Hygiene
The infrastructure overhaul at Shankargarh directly addresses long-standing sanitation hurdles faced by rail commuters on the Prayagraj-Mumbai corridor:
Build-Operate-Transfer Model: The modern deluxe pay-and-use sanitation facility will be developed and operated by a private agency under a 15-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contractual framework.
Round-the-Clock Maintenance: The private operator will ensure 24-hour housekeeping, high-efficiency lighting, continuous uninterrupted water supply, and periodic deep disinfection to eliminate infection risks.
Relief for Vulnerable Commuters: The development resolves serious daily difficulties previously faced by daily travelers, senior citizens, women, and children who struggled with irregular maintenance and inadequate water availability at the station premises.
E-Auction Launched for Major Parking Hubs: Kanpur Central, Chunar, and Shikohabad
To eliminate chaotic vehicular congestion at station circulating areas and entryway gates, railway authorities have structured multi-year commercial parking tenders through electronic auction:
Kanpur Central Parking Expansion: A dedicated new vehicle parking lot will operate for a five-year contractual tenure directly opposite Gate No. 3 on the Cantonment side, situated adjacent to the existing two-wheeler parking enclosure and the local mosque.
Chunar Railway Complex: Commercial vehicle parking rights within the Chunar station premises in Mirzapur district have been placed on auction for a comprehensive five-year operational lease.
Shikohabad and Jhinjhak Upgrades: Structured parking contracts for a period of three years each have been issued for tender at Shikohabad and Jhinjhak railway stations to streamline pickup and drop-off zones.
Smooth Traffic Flow: The creation of demarcated, guarded parking slots will prevent unauthorized roadside vehicle drop-offs, significantly curbing entrance-gate traffic snarls and offering secure vehicle custody for long-distance passengers.
