CM Yogi Slams Samajwadi Party in Gorakhpur as ₹493 Crore Transferred to 9.18 Lakh Flood-Hit Farmers

Post

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party on Monday, asserting that the opposition outfit was cursed and subsequently ousted by voters for embezzling public relief funds intended for farmers. Addressing a high-level disaster relief fund distribution ceremony in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister contrasted the pre-2017 regime's track record with his administration’s digital governance model, directly transferring ₹493 crore into the bank accounts of 918,091 farmers affected by unseasonal rainfall, floods, and cyclones. Adityanath emphasized that transparent digital crop surveys and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) channels have eliminated corrupt intermediaries, ensuring that agrarian support reaches genuine rural beneficiaries within ten days of crop damage.

End of Middlemen: ₹493 Crore Credited via DBT to 9.18 Lakh Farmers

Highlighting the rapid administrative turnaround after recent climate disruptions, the Chief Minister outlined the scale of financial aid mobilized by the state:

Direct Bank Account Transfers: Following heavy downpours, localized cyclones, and flooding across Uttar Pradesh roughly a week ago, district administrations completed field assessments within eight to ten days, crediting ₹493 crore directly to 918,091 farmers.

₹1,000-Crore Kharif Relief Package: Total relief disbursements to disaster-affected citizens and cultivators during this year's Kharif season have reached nearly ₹1,000 crore, including ₹169 crore previously allocated for hailstorm and storm impacts.

Property and Livestock Compensation: Over ₹225.93 crore has been distributed separately to cover loss of life, livestock fatalities, and structural property damage, alongside ₹78 crore earlier provided to 129,326 farmers for seasonal crop distress.

Digital Survey Integration: Digital land verification coupled with DBT has eliminated bureaucratic bottlenecks, ensuring zero leakage of public treasury allocations.

Scathing Attack on Pre-2017 Era: Recalling the 2014 Cyclone Hudhud Relief

Taking direct aim at the Samajwadi Party’s previous tenure in Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath pointed out systemic neglect and token payouts:

The 2014 Cyclone Discrepancy: The Chief Minister alleged that out of ₹3,200 crore dispatched by the central government following Cyclone Hudhud in 2014, only ₹800 crore reached distressed farmers, with the remaining balance lost to systemic corruption.

Token Compensation Mocked: Criticizing past regimes, Adityanath noted that prior to 2017, distressed farmers routinely received embarrassing compensation cheques valued at two, four, or fifteen rupees.

Agricultural Empowerment Record: Contrasting past governance, he cited the BJP administration's initial ₹36,000 crore loan waiver for 8.6 million small and marginal farmers, free electricity provided to 1.6 million private tube wells, and 2.2 million hectares of newly expanded irrigation networks across the state.

Round-the-Clock Relief Mandate: ₹4 Lakh for Fatalities and ₹1.20 Lakh for Homes

The Chief Minister directed all civic and revenue agencies to maintain emergency speed and uncompromised assistance protocols:

24-Hour Ex-Gratia Clearance: District magistrates have been instructed to release financial compensation of ₹4 lakh to bereaved families within 24 hours in the event of accidental loss of life due to natural calamities.

Housing Rehabilitation Aid: Families suffering completely destroyed dwellings will receive an independent allocation of ₹1.20 lakh under the Chief Minister's Housing Scheme, separate from crop loss evaluations.

Restoration of Infrastructure: Dedicated state funding has been allocated to the Public Works Department, Irrigation Department, Urban Development bodies, and local development authorities to restore severed road connectivity, drain flood waters, and stabilize river embankments through MGNREGA works.

Crop Procurement Timelines and ₹5 Lakh Lightning Accident Insurance

Expanding beyond immediate disaster grants, the Chief Minister announced key marketing schedules for the ongoing harvest cycle:

Kharif Procurement Begins October 15: In rain-affected districts where setup had been delayed, official procurement centers for paddy, sorghum (jowar), millet (bajra), and maize will begin operations on October 15, 2026.

Direct Mandi Payments: Urging cultivators to sell their harvest directly at designated state mandis, Adityanath assured farmers that no restrictive procurement ceiling would be enforced and full payments would be wired directly to their bank accounts.

Enhanced Safety and Weather Alerts: Highlighting early warning networks and rain gauges, the Chief Minister reiterated that families of lightning strike victims are entitled to ₹5 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Farmer Accident Insurance Scheme within 24 hours of any tragic event.
