Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a blistering attack on the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP), branding the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow as a "living monument to corruption." Speaking directly to a massive gathering alongside Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during a high-profile public event, CM Yogi asserted that the grand project had been reduced to a private enterprise hub, calling it an insult to the memory of socialist icon Jayaprakash Narayan.
From a ₹200 Crore Estimate to an Incomplete ₹864 Crore Project
Detailing the financial irregularities surrounding the multi-crore infrastructure, CM Yogi pointed out that the project—originally envisioned during the SP regime with an initial budget of ₹200 crore—ballooned to a staggering ₹864 crore while remaining incomplete. Designed to be finished within a tight 18-month window, the building languished for years.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister alleged that to maintain tight familial and political control over the facility, a specialized committee was established comprising key figures including Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, personal aides, and party spokespersons. Asserting financial accountability, Yogi stated that the ₹864 crore spent did not belong to any private syndicate, but rather to the hardworking taxpayers of Uttar Pradesh. Consequently, the state government formally dissolved the committee, took back control of the center, and placed it under the Lucknow Development Authority to restore its original purpose while actively pursuing the recovery of public funds mismanaged from the state treasury.
Honoring Icons: Unveiling Rani Avantibai Lodhi's Statue and Empowering Women
Shifting focus from political accountability to historical reverence, the event also marked the majestic unveiling of an equestrian statue of the freedom struggle heroine, Rani Avantibai Lodhi. CM Yogi noted that the monument stands as a proud symbol of the bravery, dignity, and valor of Indian women. Highlighting the administration's active push for women's safety and representation, the Chief Minister shared that the state government has reorganized Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) units and established three dedicated women's battalions named after legendary heroines: Uda Devi, Jhalkari Bai, and Avantibai Lodhi, located in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Badaun respectively.
Preserving Heritage and Honoring Great Leaders of Uttar Pradesh
Emphasizing the state's ongoing commitment to honoring historical icons, CM Yogi recounted various heritage and infrastructure initiatives. He recalled how former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh ('Babuji') had previously installed an Avantibai Lodhi statue near the Vidhan Bhavan, and noted that modern memorials include a stadium named after her in Aligarh, a police training college in Unnao named after martyr Gulab Singh Lodhi, a medical college in Bulandshahr in Kalyan Singh's memory, and the renaming of Lucknow's Cancer Institute in Babuji's honor.
The event drew an eminent galaxy of leaders, including Union Minister B.L. Verma, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet Minister Dharampal Singh, Minister of State Sandeep Singh, and Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, underlining a united political resolve toward transparent governance, historical preservation, and relentless regional development.
