Marking a transformative leap in criminal justice education and specialized scientific investigation infrastructure in northern India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the sprawling 50-acre permanent campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Varanasi on October 7, 2026. The high-tech institution, earmarked for development at Shahanshahpur in Rajatalab tehsil, represents Uttar Pradesh's second dedicated NFSU campus and comes with a sanctioned project budget of ₹150 crore. Following the formal handover of land previously held by the state Animal Husbandry Department, civil construction will be executed under a three-year timeline, elevating Kashi into a national epicenter for advanced forensic research, digital intelligence training, and investigative sciences.

Academic Footprint Expanding: From Temporary Jalhupur Classes to a 500-Student Hub

While architectural plans and ground preparations are finalized for the permanent establishment, academic operations have already kicked off to prevent delay in student intake. The university commenced classes in August from a temporary setup at the Integrated School in Jalhupur, hosting inaugural batches of 30 students each for its five-year integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc. and two-year M.Sc. specialized programs. District administrative authorities and university liaisons have conducted on-site inspections at Shahanshahpur to oversee ground-breaking arrangements and infrastructural blueprints. Upon completion of the permanent complex, student capacity will surge beyond 500, offering multi-disciplinary postgraduate and doctoral research programs tailored for youth across Purvanchal, Bihar, and eastern India.

High-End Ballistics, Cyber Forensics, and Behavioral Labs to Plug National Expert Deficit

Engineered as a center of scientific excellence, the upcoming Varanasi campus will integrate smart classrooms, comprehensive digital archives, seminar complexes, and on-campus residential housing. More critically, it will house cutting-edge research facilities, including advanced digital forensics centers, ballistics examination suites, DNA profiling laboratories, behavioral analysis setups, and cybersecurity testbeds outfitted with next-generation analytical instruments. By offering focused degrees in cybercrime investigation, criminology, and physical forensics, the university directly addresses the severe deficit of forensic experts, cyber investigators, and judicial analysts across Indian law enforcement agencies and global security organizations.
