Adventure tourism enthusiasts in Uttar Pradesh have reason to cheer as Agra Chowpatty is gearing up to resume its popular adventure activities around Diwali. The Agra Development Authority (ADA) has mandated a comprehensive safety overhaul following a tragic incident earlier this year. Authorities have made it clear that operations will only restart after strict safety measures are fully implemented, inspected by departmental officials, and verified through an independent third-party audit.
Background of the Tragic Incident and Legal Action
The popular recreation hub at Tajnagri Phase 2 had been sealed earlier this year after a tragic accident in May claimed the life of 15-year-old Kunal Agarwal from Firozabad. The teenager tragically fell from a 45-foot-high zipline due to severe staff negligence in securing safety hooks. The ADA had originally partnered with the Delhi-based firm EOD in October last year to manage adventure sports. Following the fatal lapse, criminal cases under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder were filed against the company owner, safety in-charge, and manager, leading to police arrests and the immediate closure of the facility.
Strict ADA Inspections and PWD Third-Party Audit Before Reopening
To ensure absolute safety for visitors and tourists, the operating company has informed ADA officials that comprehensive safety netting and protective infrastructure will be completed within a month. ADA Vice President M. Arunmooli emphasized that once the company finishes upgrading its safety protocols, the department will conduct a thorough physical inspection. Furthermore, a mandatory third-party audit will be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD). Only after receiving official clearance from these stringent checks will permission be granted to reopen the adventure zone to the public.
