In a landmark infrastructural upgrade for urban public healthcare, Basti is set to install its first-ever underground power transmission cable to guarantee dedicated, round-the-clock power supply to premier state-run medical facilities. Finalizing the technical tendering procedures at an estimated cost of ₹1.24 crore on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the power department’s Secondary Division has greenlit the execution of a 2.4-kilometer-long 33 kV subterranean cable network. The initiative will isolate the power feeding mechanisms for the Sadar District Hospital and the District Women's Hospital, shielding critical emergency wards, intensive care units, and surgical suites from routine municipal line faults and load-shedding shutdowns.

Decoupling Hospital Feeder from Substation Load: End to Routine Blackouts During Repairs

Under the existing distribution architecture, an overhead 33 kV power transmission line simultaneously carries the electricity load for both key medical centers while routing energy into the high-demand Malviya Road electrical substation. Consequently, whenever the substation undergoes maintenance or trips during peak commercial loading, technicians are forced to implement total shutdowns that jeopardize critical patient monitoring systems in both hospitals. Adhering to strict state government mandates demanding an uninterrupted 24-hour power lifeline for government healthcare complexes, the new underground conduit will physically bypass public grid congestion, establishing an independent transmission route directly linked to the robust 220 kV Gidhi transmission line.

Civil Excavations to Begin: Delinking Malviya Road Grid from Historic 'Court Feeder'

According to engineering authorities, civil excavation work and protective chamber construction along the designated 2.4 km path will commence as soon as the specialized high-tension armored cables are delivered on-site. Power substation Junior Engineer Shivkumar confirmed that the historic line, long designated as the 'Court Feeder' in official municipal records, will undergo full structural segregation, with the upcoming underground channel receiving a new administrative nomenclature upon commissioning. Decoupling the high hospital load from the Malviya Road substation will also grant maintenance teams greater operational flexibility to execute urban repairs without disrupting life-saving hospital equipment, marking a technological leap in Basti's civic utility grid.
