Rubio's comments came in light of the US government Katzeing the KC visa or her students visa for allegedly abusing the terms of her visa. “If we've given you a visa and then you decide to do that, we're going to take it away,” he said.
During a press meet with the President of Guyana Irfaan Ali, US Secretary Marco Rubio confirmed the allegations saying , “We revoked her visa...We gave you a visa to come a study and get a degree, not to become a social activist that tears up our university campuses."

Her lawyer, Mahsa Khanbabai, voiced her concerns on where her client could be, adding that there was no contact made with her and no charges laid. Oztuk had been practicing Islam for 27 years. A spokesperson for the Department of Defense for Homeland Security claimed to know of her “supporting activities” for Hamas, and from this, they terminated her visa. Ozturk has since contested the detention by filing a court petition surrounding the context of her detention.
Throughout the week, Judge Indira Talwani from the Federal District Court has prohibited Rumeysa Ozturk from leaving the states without alerting the court. The government’s response to this mandate is still unknown. These alarming events have muddied the political sphere at Tufts University as President Sunil Kumar noted how the university was kept out of the intel loop surrounding the suspected detainment. Ozturk is an active member of campus organizations and publicly claimed her disdain for the university through an opinion editorial in March with actively trying to silencing the university's response to their students’ demands about Palestine.
