Tensions between the United States and China have intensified after President Donald Trump introduced sweeping new tariffs. While most countries received a 90-day delay, China was excluded, and the tariffs remain active.
China's response has been firm. In a move reflecting Beijing’s strong stance, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning posted a 2021 video of President Xi Jinping on social media. In the clip, Xi issued a direct warning:
“We have never bullied, oppressed, or subjugated the people of any other country, and we never will. By the same token, Chinese people will never allow any foreign force to bully, oppress, or subjugate us. Anyone who would attempt to do so will find themselves on a collision course with a great wall of steel forged by over 1.4 billion Chinese people.”

This statement highlights China’s determination to resist what it sees as foreign pressure in the ongoing trade dispute.
China Counters Tariffs with Historical Messaging
Mao Ning had earlier posted a historical video featuring Mao Zedong, who once described the United States as a "paper tiger." The use of such archival content shows how Beijing is using past rhetoric to shape current narratives around the trade dispute.
The Chinese government has matched U.S. tariffs with countermeasures, underlining the seriousness of the ongoing trade conflict.
Beijing Responds to Trump’s 125% Tariff Hike
After President Trump announced a sharp increase in tariffs—raising duties on Chinese imports by 125%—Beijing responded without hesitation, making it clear it would not compromise under pressure.
The exchange illustrates how the trade standoff between the world's two largest economies is growing more intense.
