In a decisive move to project a unified front, the Congress party has officially thrown its weight behind Tejashwi Yadav, declaring him the undisputed Chief Ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
This firm declaration, made by Bihar Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh, is designed to quash any rumors of a leadership tussle within the opposition alliance. The statement comes just weeks after a major political shake-up in the state, which saw former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar exit the Mahagathbandhan and realign with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
"There is absolutely no confusion on this," Singh stated, emphasizing that the decision to position Tejashwi Yadav as the alliance's leader was a collective one. He clarified that this understanding was in place even when Nitish Kumar was part of their coalition, with the agreement that Kumar would eventually pass the leadership baton to Yadav.
With Nitish Kumar now back in the NDA camp, the Mahagathbandhan—comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties—is solidifying its strategy early. By anointing Tejashwi Yadav as their clear leader, the alliance aims to present a stable and determined challenge to the newly formed JDU-BJP government.
Akhilesh Prasad Singh expressed strong confidence in the coalition's future, not just for the 2025 state elections but also for the imminent Lok Sabha polls. He asserted that the people of Bihar would reject the frequent political shifts and that the Grand Alliance would perform exceptionally well.
This early and clear endorsement sets the stage for a major political showdown in Bihar, positioning Tejashwi Yadav as the central figure leading the opposition's charge to reclaim power in the state.
