Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The political fallout from a near-stampede at a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) event has taken a sharp turn, with the Karnataka Raj Bhavan issuing a statement that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot attended the event upon a direct invitation from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The controversy began after members of the ruling Congress party questioned the appropriateness of the Governor's presence at the RCB "Unbox" event held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The criticism grew louder after a complaint was filed regarding the chaotic crowd management that almost led to a stampede. State minister Priyank Kharge was among those who had publicly questioned the Governor's attendance.
In a direct rebuttal to the mounting criticism, the Governor's office released a formal clarification. The statement asserted that the invitation was not just a general one, but had come from the head of the state government. "The Hon'ble Governor was invited by the Hon'ble Chief Minister to the RCB Unbox event," the Raj Bhavan's communication read.
The statement further explained that the Governor attended the event primarily to honor and felicitate the RCB women's team for their historic victory in the Women's Premier League (WPL) and to encourage sportsmanship in the state.
This revelation effectively turns the tables on the state government, as the criticism now appears misplaced given that the Governor was an official guest of the Chief Minister. The incident highlights the ongoing friction between Karnataka's Congress-led government and the office of the Governor.
