US President Donald Trump has made it clear that no officials will be fired because of the leak involving the air strike against the Houthis in Yemen. This claim had led to speculation that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz may lose his position since his National Security Adviser had apparently leaked information by putting a journalist in an encrypted signal chat.

Although there were narratives that Trump was advised to fire Waltz due to the mistake, he later confirmed that he had not considered this at all. During an interaction with NBC News on Saturday, Trump mentioned, “I don’t fire people because of fake news and because of witch hunts.”

The US president also claimed to have full faith in his national security aide and the secretary of the Pentagon. He further denied any conversations regarding the termination of his aide. “Nobody else makes that decision but me, and I’ve never heard it,” he stated.

This dispute all started when Waltz didn’t intend to put Jeffrey Goldberg, the head of The Atlantic, into a signal chat which contained highly confidential discussions among the members of the government regarding an air strike on the Houthis. It is claimed that during this chat, Hegseth provided information on how the strike would be completed prior to it actually occurring.

Goldberg’s addition to the dialog resulted in The Atlantic writing an article revealing the behind-the-scenes deliberations, which shocked the national security world.

After experiencing quite a bit of staff change during his first term, Trump seems to be intent on not having that level of chaos this time. His first national security adviser, Mike Flynn, got dismissed early in his presidency due to him being investigated for Russia ties.

Trump has always been unapologetic about caving in to the outside pressure, especially from the press, when it comes to staff changes.
