The Afghanistan team is currently on a tour of Zimbabwe, where it has come to play a series of 2 Tests, three ODIs and three T20 matches with the host team. This tour started on 11 December with a three-match T20 series in which the Afghanistan team had to face defeat on the last ball of the match by 4 wickets. Afghanistan got a chance to bat first in the match in which it was able to score 145 runs in 20 overs, while the Zimbabwe team achieved this target on the last ball and won the match and also took a 1-0 lead in the series.
Zimbabwe defeated Afghanistan team after five years
Batting all-rounder Brian Bennett played a very important role in Zimbabwe’s victory in the first match of the series. He scored 49 runs in 49 balls with the help of 5 fours. Bennett was also awarded the Player of the Match title for his brilliant innings. Zimbabwe needed 11 runs to win in the last over of the match, after which the host team completely took control of the match with 8 runs coming off the first three balls. However, Afghanistan tried to make a comeback after no runs were scored on the fourth ball of the over, but with 2 runs on the fifth ball and then one run on the last ball, Zimbabwe’s team won the match completely. Zimbabwe’s team has managed to win a match against Afghanistan in T20 International after 5 years. Zimbabwe had earlier defeated Afghanistan in a T20 match in September 2019.
Afghanistan’s bowlers and batsmen showed very poor performance
In this match, Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan did not delay in deciding to bat first after winning the toss, after which apart from Karim Janat’s 54 and Mohammad Nabi’s 44 runs, no other batsman was able to spend much time on the pitch. After this, Naveen Ul Haq did get three wickets in bowling but he also proved to be very expensive. Now the second match of the series between the two teams will be played on 13 December at the same ground in Harare.
