Despite their gesture of goodwill, Manchu has firmly stated his intention to give them a "pay cheque," insisting that their immense contribution deserves to be compensated.
Speaking from the Cannes Film Festival, where he is promoting the film, Manchu explained that both Prabhas and Mohanlal joined the project out of sheer belief in its vision and their personal relationship with him. Their decision to waive their multi-crore fees was a testament to their passion for the story. However, Manchu feels a moral obligation to acknowledge their stature and effort.
"I will give them a pay cheque," Manchu affirmed. "They didn't ask for it. They said, 'We are doing this for you,' but they absolutely deserve it." This move is not a contractual obligation but a gesture of profound respect for their star power and the value they bring to his passion project.
Kannappa is being mounted on a massive scale as a pan-Indian spectacle, also featuring Bollywood heavyweight Akshay Kumar in a key role. The fact that industry legends like Mohanlal and Prabhas were willing to contribute their time and talent for free speaks volumes about the project's appeal and the strong personal bonds that underpin the Indian film industry.
