Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Pakistan is facing a severe and escalating security crisis, with the first quarter of 2024 marking a grim new record for terrorist violence. A recent report reveals an unprecedented wave of attacks that has claimed the lives of over 432 people, including civilians and security personnel.

According to data released by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the nation endured 245 separate terrorist attacks and counter-insurgency operations between January and March. The resulting death toll is a staggering 344% increase compared to the 97 fatalities recorded during the same period in 2023, highlighting a dramatic and rapid deterioration of the country's security situation.

The violence has been most concentrated in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which together accounted for over 92% of all fatalities. This surge is largely attributed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates, who unilaterally ended a ceasefire with the government in November 2022 and have since intensified their campaign against the state.

The crisis has prompted sharp criticism from within Pakistan's own government. Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan of the Jamaat-e-Islami party condemned the state's past strategies, using a powerful metaphor to describe the current situation: "If you feed milk to a snake, it will not shower flowers on you, it will bite you." His words reflect a growing sentiment that previous policies of engaging with militant groups have backfired, creating the very threat that now destabilizes the nation.

Major recent attacks underscore the scale of the challenge, including a sophisticated assault by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) on the Gwadar Port complex and another attack on a naval air base in Turbat. These high-profile incidents demonstrate the capability and audacity of militant groups operating in the region.

As Pakistan confronts this record-breaking violence, the nation finds itself in a precarious position, battling a multi-front insurgency that threatens both its citizens and its national security infrastructure.
