In a massive tactical reinforcement ahead of the IPL 2027 player auction, Delhi Capitals officially announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the appointment of veteran Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra as the franchise’s new spin-bowling coach. The historic signing completes an illustrious Indian backroom brain trust for the capital-based franchise, which recently named former BCCI president and legendary Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as its head coach, alongside six-hitting icon Yuvraj Singh as assistant coach. For Mishra, this marks a poetic full-circle homecoming, as the seasoned campaigner spent the most dominant campaigns of his playing career spearheading the Delhi bowling attack and now transitions directly into his professional IPL coaching journey with the very franchise where his tournament story began.
Massive Backroom Overhaul: Delhi Capitals Build All-Star Indian Think Tank for Title Quest
Delhi Capitals have been an active founding member of the Indian Premier League since its inaugural 2008 season, yet the franchise remains in pursuit of its elusive maiden IPL championship trophy:
Title Hunt and Leadership Continuity: The franchise reached the IPL final on one occasion back in 2020 under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, and with explosive talisman Rishabh Pant firmly back at the helm, the management has moved aggressively to construct an elite Indian-centric coaching setup ahead of the upcoming auction.
Trio of Indian Legends: The inclusion of Amit Mishra alongside head coach Sourav Ganguly and assistant coach Yuvraj Singh injects immense tactical depth, domestic familiarity, and proven championship pedigree into the Capitals' dugout.
Targeting Auction Strategies: The newly appointed coaching triumvirate will play a hands-on role in identifying domestic spinners, overseas mystery bowlers, and vital squad compositions during the forthcoming IPL 2027 bidding war.
A Decorated Delhi Legacy: Ten Memorable IPL Seasons in Capital Colors
Amit Mishra’s appointment as spin mentor reflects an organic bond forged through more than a decade of sweat and scalps for the Delhi franchise:
The Early Years (2008–2010): Mishra was a core pillar for the side during the league's initial three seasons when the franchise operated under the Delhi Daredevils moniker, delivering match-winning spells on turning Kotla surfaces.
The Long Return (2015–2021): Rejoining Delhi in 2015, the wrist-spinner committed seven consecutive seasons to the team, mentoring upcoming talents and remaining a strike weapon until the 2021 edition.
Final Playing Chapters with LSG: Following his lengthy Delhi tenure, Mishra transitioned to the Lucknow Super Giants in 2023, subsequently playing his final competitive IPL season for Lucknow in 2024 before hanging up his boots to step into mentorship roles.
Illustrious Bowling Record: 174 IPL Scalps and Tri-Format India Service
Mishra brings one of the richest statistical resumes in twenty-over history to the Delhi Capitals coaching setup:
Staggering IPL Exploits (2008–2024): Across a celebrated 16-year playing journey representing four distinct IPL franchises, Mishra bagged 174 wickets in 162 appearances, making him one of the most prolific wicket-taking spinners in the history of the league and the owner of three IPL hat-tricks.
International Track Record for India: Wearing the national jersey across all three formats, Mishra claimed 76 wickets in 22 Test matches, snapped up 64 wickets in 36 One-Day Internationals, and delivered 16 scalps in 10 T20 Internationals, demonstrating elite control and drift at the highest level.
