Recently popular social media influencer Sonu Nigam alerted his fans after discovering that fake social media accounts impersonating him were spreading misleading content on the platform X (formerly Twitter).

Sonu stated in an Instagram post regarding his account on X, “I have not been active on X for nearly eight years and strongly advise any interactions that are submitted claiming to represent me at this time. They are malicious apps acting under my avatar.”

Recommended Immediate Action

After carefully scrutinizing his fan base and pondering Sonu’s comments, sections of his name were flagged as missing. Subsequently, positive fans reported the same suspicious activity which prompted the social media star to take immediate unexplained action. “If you do come across accounts whose reliance on misgiving is unquestionable, please WHISTLE AND SQUASH,” reasoned Sonu. Sonu expressed his gratitude towards the fans for telling him about the situation.

Rising Concern for Social Media Applications Security

Impersonation in the public domain appears to be on the rise lately and is becoming a worrying trend. For instance, Shreya Ghoshal, another popular singer has suffered from the repercussions of these impersonators given her account being hacked back in March although was quick enough to restrict access once recovery was enabled.

Nigam's unlocks a larger identity theft and hacking concern on social media sites with his prompt attention to the problem bounding the need for caution and proactivity, particularly around celebrity accounts, thinking of the notorious-hacker-impersonator dilemma.

Nigam’s Final Appeal

Adding a bit of caution, Nigam stressed, “If you happen to see any dubious/fake messages in my name, I'd greatly appreciate it if you took the time to report or block the account.”
