The CBI Crime Branch had called the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, for questioning in the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital, and after the questioning, the CBI arrested him. Sandeep Ghosh was being questioned at the CBI office in Salt Lake CGO Complex on Monday. After this, the CBI’s anti-corruption wing came to the CGO Complex and took him out of the Crime Branch office. The CBI’s anti-corruption branch was investigating the RG Kar Hospital financial corruption case. After this, the CBI arrested Ghosh.
Second arrest after Sanjay Roy
According to the information, the CBI has arrested the former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandeep Ghosh in the financial corruption case. The Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI has arrested Sandeep. The former principal has been questioned for more than two weeks. Last month, a 31-year-old female trainee doctor was raped and murdered in RG Kar Hospital. Police have already arrested Sanjay Roy on charges of rape and murder and he is currently in jail.

In the case of financial misconduct in RG Kar Medical College, the CBI has charged Sandeep Ghosh under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy, fraud, and dishonesty. These cases fall under cognizable offenses and are non-bailable. On the instructions of the Calcutta High Court, the Central Investigation Agency had registered an FIR after taking over the investigation from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kolkata Police.

Sandip Ghose served as the principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from February 2021 to September 2023. Despite being transferred in October 2023, he unexpectedly returned to his role at the hospital within a month. He remained in the position until the day the trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered inside a seminar hall of the hospital. Her half-naked body was found on August 9.
