Sanam Teri Kasam 2 Confirmed: Mawra Hocane Not Returning, Confirms Director Vinay Sapru:

Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) received a renewed push in February 2025 when it was re-released, prompting fans of the franchise to wish for a sequel and subsequently, a spinoff. This wish has been addressed by co-director Vinay Sapru during an interview with Hindi Rush, announcing that plans for Sanam Teri Kasam 2 are underway, albeit with some significant casting changes.

Hyderabad Will Not Be Revisited

It is no secret that Mawra Hocane will not reprise her role as Sapru confirmed that she is currently not a part of the picture. This comes after Harshvardhan Rane, the first film's male lead, posted a rather vague social media story indicating he wouldn’t return if the original cast was brought back. Speculation online and a short tussle between Rane and Hocane ensued after the post.

Ho could not further explain: “Mawra to nahi hai”, effectively confirming the actress’s exit and speculating over the identity of the new lead actress.

Past Issues: Interference, Studio Problems and Promoting the Film

While co-director Radhika Rao concentrated on the film's marketing, his counterpart Sapru devoted more attention to other issues surrounding the film, including its controversies, arguing, and other factors that contributed to its unremarkable box office earnings. He also reported that the film’s marketing was plagued by problems from the very beginning.

Sapru remembering feeling, "betrayed," added:

"The studio guaranteed us powerful promotional support, but after acquiring the film, they just went silent. They didn’t help us even after we had a decent run at the box office."

One incident really stood out:

"I asked the marketing head for more effort. She said to me, ‘Make a better film and come next time. I had to make my assistants to watch your film. Your film is so pathetic.’"

Sanam Teri Kasam 2 Back on Track
Despite the difficult start, the film’s first production Sapru said he and Rao had intended a sequel during the original’s production. Those plans were put on hold after the film flopped. But now, thanks to the film’s succesful re-release which garnered it renewed attention and fan support, the sequel is officially in development.

What to Expect Next
While casting choices after Hocane’s departure and other decisions are yet to be made, the storyline as well as the overall production plan are already in the works. With further fan engagement and more defined goals, Sanam Teri Kasam 2 aims to uphold the emotional legacy of the original, this time intended to serve the fans with a different perspective.
