Saif Ali Khan Returns in 'Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins'

Saif Ali Khan, a Bollywood legend, will star in Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, a Netflix original film set to premiere soon. The film explores the mind of a jewel thief who is hired by a crime lord to steal the renowned diamond, The African Red Sun. Khan explained why he is particularly drawn to this genre when he spoke at the trailer launch, saying he admires the moral ambiguity behind characters that break the law for deeply personal, often emotional, reasons.

“He’s not just a thief. This character uses his criminal skills for a good cause. That level of excitement is rarely seen,” said Khan while discussing the character.

Star-Studded Cast and Reunion of a Creative Duo

Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins has been produced by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand under Marflix Pictures. After 17 years of hiatus, Anand reunites with Khan. Their last works together were Salaam Namaste (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007).

In the words of Anand, “Saif is still the same fun and warm character that comes alive on set. He has a distinct and surprising humor, and his energy is great for the team.” Khan is to thank for the wonderful comments above.

Jaideep Ahlawat, an acclaimed actor also joins the film's cast as its primary antagonist and anti-hero, and he is indeed a powerful addition to the role. One of the main cast members, actor R. Madhavan, stated himosh gressive cop in this film which he calls refreshing. “It is a change of pace from my usually philosophical or peacemaking roles.”

Thanking Anand for casting her as a traditional Bollywood heroine is actor Richa Dutta who appeared in the series The Waking of a Nation. “I have never really got the chance to experience that iconic Bollywood heroine moment—this film gave me that,” she said.

As for the acting itself, the film will release on Netflix on April 25, meaning audiences 190 countries will gain access. “We are looking at 300 million viewers on day one thanks to Netflix,” Anand stated. “They provide us the opportunity to reach the right audience for experiencing cinema from the comfort of their homes.”
