On March 9th, the Champions Trophy 2025 came to a close, and Team India was able to take home the trophy. While India’s Rohit Sharma and company prove to be breathtaking in the tournament, the ICC released the latest ODI rankings which was good news for Rohit, but not so much for Virat. As for the bowlers, spinners have dominated the category, with Kuldeep Yadav rising and tumbling into the top 3.
The Captain has Prospured
Rohit Sharma, the captain of team India, rocked the field when he scored 76 runs during the Champions Trophy finals. While Hitman sits behind Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer for runs scored, he leads head and shoulders in the standings. Iyer, the top Indian scorer, surprisingly did not move up from his 8th place for him. After this incredible captain display, Rohit has skyrocketed to the 3rd position while Shubham Gill keeps his crown as the number 1.
The Crown of Virat Crumbled
Kohli burned the field down during the Champions Trophy and smacked a century against Pakistan. With New Zealand, Kohli’s bat spoke once again.
Even so, Kohli slipped from fourth to fifth after putting together an innings of 84 runs. With this, he has now lost a place in the ICC rankings.
Positives for ‘Team India’ Spinners
All the spinners that played for Team India have received positive returns. Kuldeep Yadav, the spin wizard, rose 3 rungs to claim the 3rd position. Mitchell Santner of New Zealand moved up 6 spots to take the 2nd position. Even without featuring in the Champions Trophy, Sri Lankan great Mahesh Deekshana remains number one. Ravindra Jadeja also made the top 10, moving up 3 spots. Varun Chakraborty made a stunning leap of 16 spots.
