It was revealed that Ponting wanted both openers Prabhsimran and Arya to achieve the feat of a century. He further added that Prabhsimran's performance had him at the mark of 91, falling short by nine runs. He missed out on getting the achievement. Even so, his efforts were appreciated. “He’s been brilliant. His partnership with Priyansh has been one of the best this season.”

Ponting was quoting Punjab's batting depth while having Azmatullah come in at Number 9. He further explained that it gives more freedom to the top order. “We’ve given them clear instructions. After a dominant win, late innings issues were addressed by Ponting, who was discussing and critiquing the increase of net run rate. Even with unquestionable victories, clear issues were called out. “LSG were 73 for 4 at the halfway mark but managed to close the gap massively through aggressive hitting from Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad.”

“We bowled well in the new ball period, but we did give away a few runs at the end. That is something we will work on—it may impact our net run rate in the future,” he pointed out.

Dharamsala: Turning the Venue into a Fortress

“I was particularly looking forward to playing at the Punjab’s other home ground located in Dharamsala,” Ponting said. “The energy was off the charts. It is a beautiful stadium, and we want it to be a place where teams coming here find it difficult to win. We have three matches here—tonight was the start we required.”

As for the future outings, the Punjab Kings will battle against the Delhi Capitals next at Dharamsala. Ponting is Optimistic that these two factors will help him and his team build on this performance.
