On seeing this, all the gods, goddesses and sages asked for help from Mahadev and Ganpati Bappa. Lord Shiva stopped Analasur by fighting him, and the three worlds got rid of his terror. At that time Ganesha swallowed Analasur whole. However, it caused severe stomach ache to the Lord, due to which the sage Kashyapa asked him to consume 21 bundles of Durva grass. Since then, Durva grass has become favorite to Lord Ganesha, hence it is commonly offered to the Lord on Wednesday and Chaturthi.
