After a natural disaster severed a vital link to the "Queen of Hills," the Uttarakhand government has fast-tracked the construction of a new Bailey Bridge to ease travel for thousands of tourists and locals.

Dehradun/Mussoorie, April 2026  In a major development for Uttarakhand tourism, the vital connectivity to Mussoorie is set to be restored soon. The Bailey Bridge, which was washed away during a recent natural calamity, will be completely reconstructed and opened for traffic within the next 20 days.

The Race Against Time

The destruction of the bridge had caused significant hardships, forcing commuters to take long, treacherous detours and impacting the local economy during the peak travel season. Recognizing the urgency, the Public Works Department (PWD) and the state administration have initiated work on a war footing.

Key Highlights of the Project:

20-Day Deadline: Engineers have been tasked with completing the assembly and installation of the pre-fabricated bridge by the end of the month.

Strategic Importance: This bridge serves as a lifeline for supply chains moving toward Mussoorie and several interior villages in the Dehradun district.

Enhanced Strength: The new structure is designed to handle heavy tourist traffic and essential supply trucks more effectively than the previous temporary setup.

Impact on Tourism and Local Commuters

Mussoorie, often called the "Queen of Hills," sees a massive influx of visitors from Delhi-NCR and neighboring states. The bridge's absence had led to a sharp decline in hotel bookings and local business revenue.

For Tourists: The restoration means a smoother, faster route to Mall Road and Kempty Falls without the fear of traffic bottlenecks on alternative narrow roads.

For Locals: Farmers and daily wage earners who rely on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route will finally get their primary transport link back.

Government’s Commitment to Infrastructure

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s administration has emphasized that restoring disaster-hit infrastructure is a top priority. Officials have been warned that no delays will be tolerated, as any further disruption could harm the state's reputation as a safe and accessible tourist destination.

As the 20-day countdown begins, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and PWD teams are working around the clock to ensure that the iconic hills of Mussoorie are once again easily reachable for everyone.
