Ranveer Allahbadia, India’s most famous podcaster and influencer is being investigated by the Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Cyber Cell for remarks made on Samay Raina’s show called India’s got latent.
The controversy started when Allahabad along with fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani made derogatory remarks towards parents along with sex which resulted in multiple FIRs against them.
Apoorva Mukhija is also being investigated and Rakhi Sawant, the popular actor, has been called for questioning on 27 February while the rest of the statements, including Raina’s, are yet to be taken. As per India today, Ranveer Allahbadia has stated that he did receive payment for the episode of the show but in reality he does not.
Times of India reported that Ranveer Allahbadia said he feels sorry for some of his comments, “I consider myself friends with Samay Raina so I went on that show. Saying the line which raised controversy was my mistake. That was something I should not have uttered.” In addition, he said, “We are friends and we are YouTubers, so we keep appearing on each other’s shows.” Accepting blame, he explained that he chose his words poorly and stress that he did not profit from the show in any way.
With the Affair moving further along, ANI reported that both Allahbadia and Chanchlani gave statements to the authorities of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell. Reportedly, Allahbadia left after four hours, while Chanchlani continued his session. In any event, Allahbadia also made a request with the Supreme Court about the multiple FIRs which were issued against him. To that, the court replied, “If this is not indecency, I do not know what is.” While the court did give him interim protection, he is still prohibited from performing his shows and leaving the country.
Due to the backlash, Allahbadia ended up issuing an apology video claiming, “My comment was not appropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my strong point. I personally fumbled. I owe you an apology.” NCW (National Commission for Women) has also intervened by summoning Allahbadia, Raina and Mukhija for their statements. They must come to the authorities on March 6, while Raina is set for March 11.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has increased the scope of investigation by recording the statements of several influencers in the matter. As reported by ANI, more than 30 people have been called in for questioning in relation to the case. Chanchlani and Allahbadia had previously gone to the police station to give their statements, as was convenient to them. On the 24th of February, both YouTubers visited the Maharashtra Cyber Cell headquarters in Navi Mumbai to perform the necessary formalities.
