The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned an alleged incident of police brutality and religious desecration in Punjab, prompting widespread outrage across the state. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami personally visited Sangrur to meet Mohjit Singh Sher, a Gursikh youth who was allegedly tortured by law enforcement after raising civic concerns about the rampant drug menace. Expressing deep dismay, Advocate Dhami declared that the Sikh community will never tolerate the intentional disrespect shown to a Gursikh's sacred Kakars (articles of faith), demanding swift and exemplary legal action against the responsible officers.

The controversy erupted after Mohjit Singh publicly questioned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann regarding the worsening drug crisis during a public outreach visit in his village. Instead of addressing the critical issue of drug abuse plaguing the state's youth, local authorities allegedly subjected the young activist to brutal physical torture. Following the meeting in Sangrur, Advocate Dhami emphasized that while questioning government policies and social challenges is a fundamental right of every citizen, police high-handedness and brutality against peaceful questioners are entirely unacceptable in a democratic society.

Highlighting the gravity of the incident, the SGPC President pointed out that the police did not merely assault the youth but committed a grievous crime by forcibly desecrating his sacred Kakars during the altercation. "No one has the right to take the law into their own hands and disrespect Sikh religious symbols," Dhami asserted, stressing that the apex religious body of the Sikhs considers it a sacred duty to stand firmly with victims of oppression and state overreach.

Advocate Dhami announced that if Mohjit Singh desires, the committee will arrange for his complete medical rehabilitation at Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College.
