In view of the immense religious significance associated with the auspicious occasion of the Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Punjab government has officially declared a local holiday in the Sri Amritsar Sahib district on Saturday, September 12, 2026. According to official notifications issued by Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, all administrative departments have been instructed to ensure strict compliance across the region, allowing residents and devotees to participate in the grand religious celebrations and community processions planned throughout the holy city.

Closure of Government Schools, Educational Institutions, and Public Offices

Under the directives issued by the state administration, the holiday applies comprehensively across public infrastructure in the district. All government schools, colleges, and other state-run educational institutions in the Sri Amritsar Sahib district will remain shut on September 12. Furthermore, all government offices, public sector boards, and corporate bodies operating within the district boundaries have been ordered to stay closed, halting routine administrative operations for the day.

Grand Celebrations Expected Across Amritsar for Prakash Parv

The government's decision aims to facilitate smooth participation in the religious festivities, as thousands of devotees are expected to flock to historical Gurdwaras and holy sites in Amritsar to pay their respects and take part in prayers, kirtan programs, and sacred processions. Authorities have urged citizens to note the closure dates and plan their visits to government offices accordingly.
