Following the formal approval of a revised route for the ambitious Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, project execution has gained significant momentum across Punjab. Administrative focus is currently centered on fast-tracking land acquisition along the crucial 99-kilometer stretch connecting Nakodar and Amritsar.
Revised Alignment and NHAI Invites Stakeholder Objections
The massive infrastructure venture spans a total length of approximately 670 kilometers, connecting the national capital to Katra through multiple phased segments. Due to a revised planning framework, the alignment for the specific section between Nakodar and Amritsar within Punjab was adjusted, requiring a fresh round of land acquisition protocols in designated areas.
To ensure transparency, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out a structured compensation framework and actively invited suggestions, claims, and objections from affected landowners. Property owners fall under established regulatory guidelines allowing them to review land descriptions and proposed compensation structures. Individuals with grievances can officially submit their documentation and objections for administrative review, ensuring that subsequent acquisition steps proceed fairly.
Strategic Importance and 2027-28 Completion Target
The Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway represents a transformative leap for regional connectivity, designed to dramatically cut down travel times for both passenger transit and commercial cargo transport between Delhi, Amritsar, and onward to Katra.
Substantial progress has already been recorded across different sectors, with approximately 135 kilometers of the expressway successfully completed within Haryana, while land acquisition activities continue to advance across various districts in Punjab. With the route modifications now finalized and administrative clarity established, authorities are targeting full integration and connectivity of the expressway by the 2027-28 fiscal window.
