Rahul Gandhi & Mallikarjun Kharge Sound Punjab Poll Bugle from Sangrur 'Insaaf Rally'

Sounding the official clarion call for the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, top Indian National Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge descended on the Malwa heartland of Sangrur on Wednesday to address the party's high-stakes 'Insaaf Rally'. Marking the formal kickoff of the Congress campaign to wrest power in the agrarian state, the massive political gathering witnessed top provincial and national figures mounting an aggressive, coordinated assault against both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central administration, setting the stage for an intense multi-cornered electoral duel.

State Leadership Escalates Attack on Farm Distress, Delayed Procurement, and Memorial Row

Welcoming the central leadership to the rally dias, Punjab Congress President Pargat Singh launched an unsparing offensive against both the state and central establishments. Pargat Singh claimed that approximately 25 percent of the seasonal paddy harvest remains stranded and unclaimed across state grain mandis due to abrupt procurement halts by state-run agencies, leaving farmers under acute distress. He also attacked the Bhagwant Mann-led dispensation over law and order, alleging that the administration has converted the state into an authoritarian setup where public grievances are ignored. Turning his focus to the central government, Singh condemned the BJP leadership for withholding land sanction for a memorial dedicated to the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Former CMs Rally Cadres: Channi and Raja Warring Urge Grassroots Resistance

Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi energized the packed gathering of grassroots cadres, asserting that public mobilization and the resilience of booth-level volunteers represent the party's ultimate strength against institutional power. Emphasizing collective resolve, Channi urged workers to mount an unyielding resistance against the present political system to defend Punjab’s federal and economic rights. Echoing his sentiments, senior leader Amarinder Singh Raja Warring highlighted the inclusive ethos of the Congress organization, emphasizing that ordinary workers from humble backgrounds are elevated to high leadership echelons, and called upon party workers to fortify every electoral booth to pave the way for a responsive administration in 2027.

Law and Order, Drug Menace, and Youth Outflow Take Center Stage in Malwa Heartland

Senior parliamentarian and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa used the platform to challenge statements from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the eradication of illicit narcotics and organized crime syndicates. Randhawa alleged that inter-state criminal networks continue to exploit regional corridors, disrupting public peace while administrative claims of crime reduction remain ineffective. He noted that the combined pressures of unemployment, agrarian crises, and security concerns are accelerating the outward migration of Punjabi youth seeking livelihoods abroad, cautioning that without immediate structural interventions and accountable governance, the state faces compounding socioeconomic vulnerabilities.
