In a decisive move to overhaul and strengthen public healthcare infrastructure across the state, the Punjab Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has officially approved the creation of 251 new positions within the Health Department. Aimed at resolving acute medical staff shortages in government institutions and expanding employment avenues for youth, the high-level meeting greenlit crucial roles across sub-divisional hospitals, maternal and child health centers, and administrative offices, ensuring that citizens receive accessible and quality medical treatment.
Resolving Staff Shortages in Chamkaur Sahib and Malerkotla
Addressing regional healthcare demands, the newly sanctioned posts directly target critical infrastructural gaps in key districts. A total of 33 new positions have been cleared for the Chamkaur Sahib Sub-Divisional Hospital, which is expected to drastically improve local access to medical care. Additionally, 19 vital administrative and clinical posts—including Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Civil Surgeon, and District Family Welfare Officer—have been approved for the Malerkotla Health Department to fortify health administration following its formation as a new district.
Bolstering Medical Teams with 80 Doctor Posts and Maternal Care Expansion
To ensure an adequate supply of qualified physicians in state-run medical facilities, the cabinet sanctioned 80 dedicated posts for Medical Officers and Dental Officers. Furthermore, 119 new positions have been created specifically for sub-divisional hospitals and newly established maternal and child health centers. These additions will supply essential pediatric and maternity personnel, ensuring mothers and infants receive specialized care. Alongside health reforms, the cabinet also greenlit important administrative updates, including amendments to Group A service rules and the creation of new posts within the Punjab Public Service Commission.
Streamlining Agriculture Policies for Procurement and Transport
Beyond healthcare expansion, the Punjab Cabinet also cleared several vital policies concerning food grain management and agricultural logistics. Key approvals included the Punjab Custom Milling Policy for Procurement Marketing Season 2026, the Punjab Foodgrain Transportation Policy 2027, and the Punjab Foodgrain Labor and Cartage Policy 2027. State officials noted that these systematic policies will streamline grain procurement, optimize transportation channels, and organize labor arrangements efficiently ahead of upcoming marketing seasons.
