Senior leader Manpreet Singh Ayali announced the strategic decision taken by the Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De coalition, confirming that the party's apex parliamentary board is actively finalizing his dual candidature. The internal shortlist features four high-profile constituencies—Dhuri, Khadoor Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and Rampura Phul—with intense discussions centering around Dhuri, the incumbent constituency of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, setting the stage for an explosive political showdown.

Expanding into the agrarian Malwa belt marks a calculated territorial pivot for Amritpal's political outfit, which has historically derived its primary strength from the religious heartland of Majha. The Malwa region commands 69 out of the total 117 assembly seats in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, making it the decisive battleground for any political entity seeking state power. By fielding Amritpal from a prominent Malwa seat alongside a Majha stronghold, the party intends to galvanize rural voting blocs, build local grassroots booth networks, and directly challenge both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the traditional Panthic base of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

The 2027 state elections will represent the first comprehensive assembly test for the Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De alliance, which has officially designated Amritpal Singh as its Chief Ministerial face. The strategy draws momentum from his historic victory during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he contested as an independent candidate from Khadoor Sahib while incarcerated in Dibrugarh Jail, defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by a massive margin of 197,120 votes.
