Mohali Set for Public Transport Boost: 100 Electric Buses to Launch in Six Months

Residents of Mohali will soon have access to a dedicated local public transportation network. Preparations are officially underway to roll out a comprehensive city bus service within the next six months, marking a major milestone for urban infrastructure in the region.
First Phase to Feature 100 Electric Buses
The announcement was made by Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh during the Municipal Corporation House meeting. He confirmed that all formal administrative formalities required to launch the transport system have been successfully completed, and implementation is now in full swing.
In the initial phase, approximately 100 electric buses will be deployed across city routes. This eco-friendly fleet aims to establish robust connectivity within Mohali while easing daily commutes for individuals traveling between Chandigarh, Kharar, Zirakpur, and other surrounding areas.
New City Bus Stand in Phase-11
To support the upcoming transit network, a dedicated city bus stand will be constructed in Phase-11. According to the MLA, land valued at approximately ₹200 crore was allocated to the Municipal Corporation for a nominal fee of one rupee to facilitate the project. This strategic site will house core operational facilities and provide permanent infrastructure for the city's expanding public transport needs.
Bringing Relief to Daily Commuters
For years, Mohali residents have relied primarily on personal vehicles, autos, or private cab aggregators due to a lack of intra-city public transit options. While select routes have historically been serviced by external transport corporations, coverage across major residential and commercial sectors remained limited.
