The Punjab government has implemented a major administrative reshuffle within the police department, issuing transfer and posting orders for eight Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The sweeping changes affect senior-level leadership, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Border Range in Amritsar, a new Police Commissioner, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) positions across five key districts.
Senior Command Changes in Amritsar
According to the official transfer notification, senior IPS officer Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Border Range, Amritsar. Prior to this assignment, Bhullar was awaiting posting. He steps into the role previously held by Harmanbir Singh.
Simultaneously, Harmanbir Singh has been assigned as the new Commissioner of Police, Amritsar. Previously managing dual responsibilities holding the additional charge of Amritsar Police Commissioner alongside his duties as DIG of the Border Range, Singh will now transition to full-time leadership of the city's police commissionership.
Major District Reshuffles: SSPs Transferred in Mansa, Patiala, and Mohali
The administrative shakeup extends deep into district-level policing, bringing fresh faces to crucial command posts. Bhagirath Singh Meena has been transferred from his role as SSP Mansa and appointed Assistant Director General of Personnel-1 (ADG Personnel-1) at CPO Punjab. Vaibhav Chaudhary, who was serving as SP Headquarters in Patiala, has been elevated to take over as the new SSP Mansa.
In a strategic interchange, SSP Patiala Varun Sharma has been transferred and reassigned as SSP Mohali. Conversely, outgoing Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans has been moved to assume command as the new SSP Patiala, seamlessly swapping roles to drive regional administrative goals.
Bathinda and PAP Command Adjustments
Further down the line of transfers, Suhail Qasim Mir—previously posted as AIG Personnel-1 at CPO Punjab—has been handed the critical responsibility of serving as SSP Bathinda. He replaces Jyoti Yadav, who has been reassigned to serve as the Commandant of the 82nd Battalion of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) based in Chandigarh.
This extensive administrative realignment is expected to alter field dynamics and optimize security operations across the assigned districts and police ranges.
